first_imgVisakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Port Trust has bagged the 19th annual Greentech Environment Award – 2019 for its continued efforts towards minimising air pollution and developing greenery in and around port area. End-to-end mechanisation of coal and iron ore cargo handling through PPP mode at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore, development of green belt at stack yards, massive plantation drive and mechanical dust suppression system were among the eco-friendly steps taken by the VPT. Installation of mechanical truck tyre cleaning facility at a cost of Rs 85 lakh, purchase of two fog canons, use of mechanical sweeping machine, installation of 10 MW solar plant at a cost of Rs 60 crore form a part of the environment-friendly initiatives taken by the VPT.
