first_imgRelatedPosts Tyson Fury to Anthony Joshua: Don’t risk fighting Usyk Anthony Joshua, Okolie plot world title double Anthony Joshua wants Tyson Fury, Wilder fight Anthony Joshua has dismissed detractors who have called for him to retire if he loses his highly anticipated rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr on December 7. The 30-year-old has been the subject of mass speculation after suffering the first defeat of his career to the Mexican-American back in June. Some have suggested he could or should quit the sport if he’s unable to win his belts back in the upcoming return, but the man himself has now shot down this idea. AJ said during Sky’s face-to-face Gloves Are Off show: “It is weird because you get: ‘Ah, if you lose your next fight you should retire.’ “I say: ‘You didn’t tell me to get in the gym so who are you to tell me to get out of the gym?’ “I swear I’ll fight till I’m 50. I fight because I love the game.” Heavyweight rival Tyson Fury is one person who has said Joshua should retire if he loses to Ruiz Jr again. “He has to get a couple of wins under his belt and convince the public that he’s a fighting man again,” Fury told IFL TV. “Go to school, learn what to do again. Get a bit of mental coaching, and that’s it. Try and make a comeback. “If he can’t make a comeback, if he can’t beat Andy Ruiz Jr., you ain’t going to do anything to Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder or any other decent heavyweight in the world either. “If he can’t beat Ruiz in the rematch he’s done, finished, goodnight, bye-bye.”Tags: Andy Ruiz JrAnthony JoshuaTyson Furylast_img read more

first_img Press Association While Sanchez is back in contention after recovering from a hamstring problem suffered at Norwich, Wenger has been wary about throwing him back in but feels he is now ready for a return. “The doubt is about him having been out for a long time, and the risk of a setback,” Wenger said. “To be clear on all the tests is one thing. To be clear after training is another. But the intensity of a big game you can never replicate in training, but you can make the risk minimal. “I’m cautious with him because we cannot afford a setback, which would mean a very long period out. We don’t want to take this risk. The signs he’s shown in training this week are positive.” At his press conference ahead of the Chelsea game, Wenger said he saw no prospect of ground-sharing with local rivals Tottenham. Chelsea and Spurs are looking to spend time at Wembley, with Stamford Bridge to be redeveloped and Tottenham’s new ground next to White Hart Lane forcing them away for the 2017/18 season. Milton Keynes is also an option for Tottenham but Wenger dismissed any suggestion it could be Arsenal who offer a temporary home to their north London neighbours. “Not really,” he said when asked if Tottenham could go to the Emirates. “We suffered a lot to build this stadium and had to be very tight financially to pay it back. I don’t know, but I don’t feel it is in our plans to do it. “We don’t need it and we have not been approached for it as well. It’s a board decision, not mine.” After a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge in September, Wenger’s side won their next five league games to get their title tilt back on track. Bar the odd blip, it has remained on course since then but back-to-back draws mean they only lead surprise package Leicester due to goal difference. Arsenal have managed to set the pace despite having Sanchez out since late November, with Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck also out with long-term injuries. Ozil has been Wenger’s player of the season so far but he was sidelined for last weekend’s draw at Stoke. However both he and Sanchez are likely to be back in time for the visit of Guus Hiddink’s side, with other players also getting close to a return. “The good news is that Ozil certainly will be available,” Wenger said. “Sanchez, the next two days will be decisive but, this time, I think he will make it for selection. Coquelin is back in full training today, ahead of schedule. “Welbeck will be in full training next week. So those are positive news. Rosicky I think will play for the under-21s tomorrow night. “A few players are coming back. We’re going into a very important period now, so to have people available is important for us. “We have done extremely well during all this period when we had big players out, but it’s just a good opportunity to have everybody back.” Arsenal are in line for a huge boost ahead of Sunday’s derby against Chelsea as the Barclays Premier League leaders could welcome back both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. The struggling Blues visit the Emirates Stadium a massive 19 points adrift of Arsene Wenger’s Gunners, whose only win against Chelsea since 2011 came in the Community Shield in August. A victory over Arsenal earlier in the season has been a rare high point in an utterly forgettable season for Chelsea, with the reigning champions having already lost nine league games this term. last_img read more

first_imgTwo suspect in a robbery were apprehended two hours after the student reported the theft of his iPhone because of a cell phone application Friday.A male USC student on the 2300 block of Portland Street was held at knifepoint while walking and listening to music on his phone. The victim called DPS right after the robbery. The Dept. of Public Safety used a GPS tracking device on the cell phone through the MobileMe app to find the suspects. The phone was tracked from the DPS office while a joint LAPD-DPS team went to find the location of the phone. The suspects were found walking on the 1100 block of Pico Avenue a few miles from USC campus, DPS. Capt. David Carlisle said.“Besides good detective work, the fact is that technology was a major factor in this investigation,” Carlisle said. “Without a smartphone, it would have made recovering it very difficult. It would have taken a lot of leg work, and there is no guarantee this crime would have ever been solved.”Carlisle recommends students download tracking apps because they can be useful tools during an investigation.“Students, most of whom have smartphones, may want to take the time to download [tracking] apps,” Carlisle said. “In the event that they lose it or it’s stolen, it would aid investigators in the recovery of property, and this case, in the possession of the suspects.”The success of the tracking device in the robbery has motivated others to download tracking apps on their phones.“This incident definitely inspires me, not just so that I can get my phone or computer back but also so that police are able to find criminals more easily,” said Mallorie Maranda, a sophomore majoring in psychology..MobileMe is an Internet service from Apple that syncs your Mac or PC with your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad with emails, contacts and calendar events and also enables you to locate your missing devices. iPhone users can activate MobileMe to download the Find My iPhone app without purchasing MobileMe services. The Find My iPhone app allows iPhone owners to track the location of their phone using Google Maps, send a message to a possible finder and erase all information on their iPhone.David Samson, a junior majoring in business administration, said that having a tracking app on a smartphone is essential.“This technology is the future,” Samson said. “Human error, like leaving your cell phone on a park bench, combined with technology and the ability to find your phone is incredible.”last_img read more

first_imgFloyd Mayweather Jr. put on an open training session in Las Vegas but made a surprise admission ahead of his bout with Manny Pacquiao.Flanked by his own camp and the media, the 38-year-old went through a workout at his Mayweather Boxing Club in what was the last scheduled public appearance in advance of his fight against Pacquiao on May 2.After the Pacquiao showdown, Mayweather has one more fight to fulfil the sixth and final instalment of his multi-million dollar Showtime pay-per-view contract – and, while he confirmed that he would fulfil that obligation, he also made a surprising admission.“I’m pretty much done with all this,” Mayweather was reported as saying by the Daily Mail.“It’s not fun like it was back then. It’s a business now. I don’t really enjoy it any longer.”The welterweight bout, which has been five years in the making, is the richest in boxing history and Mayweather had previously claimed the “world would stop” for their bout. “May 2 – the world stops. Mayweather v Pacquiao is the biggest fight in history,” Mayweather said.”This is a fight that the world can’t miss. I’m in the gym working right now, pushing myself to the limit because I never wanted to win a fight so bad in my life.”However, he insists that his career should not be judged on one fight.“One fight won’t define my legacy. What about the 47 I’ve already won? It’s an important fight. It wraps everything together – the money and my boxing.“But if one fight defined everything this would be the only one I’d have needed.” Mayweather and Pacquiao faced off for a press conference last month but have since retreated to their separate camps to prepare for the highly anticipated clash.Pacquiao will hold his own public workout on Wednesday in Los Angeles.Mayweather’s showing was a light effort built for show and he did not do much talking as he worked the speed bag but occasionally offered words to his camp.Surrounded by photographers, Mayweather delivered body shots to a sparring partner who wore body armour but did not throw any punches back. He then worked a body bag and seamlessly went through a series of light exercises.–last_img read more

At 9-2, the Chiefs have a narrow lead in the race for top seed in the AFC and home-field advantage for the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Raiders are one of the weakest teams in football and are also tied with the 49ers and Cardinals for the worst record. The Vegas-implied win odds for the Chiefs are nearly 90 percent, so even with over 95 percent of the public picking the Chiefs, other underdogs offering a more favorable risk/reward profile than Oakland.Pittsburgh Steelers (vs. LA Chargers)The Steelers are 3.5-point favorites at home against the Chargers this week. This contest features two teams in the hunt for the top seed in the AFC. Pittsburgh is coming off a Week 12 loss against Denver where it turned the ball over four times. That came after a narrow Week 11 win against Jacksonville in which Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger was intercepted three times. So, it’s not surprising that the public may be a bit wary of picking the Steelers against a good Chargers team. However, with the Vegas-implied win odds for the Steelers at 62 percent and their nationwide pick popularity around 65 percent, Pittsburgh looks fairly valued. If you’re looking for an upset pick in this risk range, Carolina is a better target (keep reading).Denver Broncos (at Cincinnati)Denver is a 4.5-point favorite on the road against Cincinnati this week. Despite identical 5-6 records, these two teams have been headed in different directions after their respective bye weeks. The Bengals have dropped three in a row after their Week 9 bye, and last week’s loss to cross-state rival Cleveland was particularly ugly, as Cincinnati spotted Cleveland a 28-0 lead. The Broncos, on the other hand, have beaten two likely playoff teams in the past two weeks, the Chargers and Steelers. The betting markets have Denver’s win odds at 67 percent, and with nationwide pick popularity of only 72 percent, you would still gain ground on a decent percentage of your pool if Denver wins.MORE TEAMRANKINGS: Intro to data-driven NFL picksUnpopular Toss-up PickBaltimore Ravens (at Atlanta)The Ravens are a one-point underdog on the road against the Falcons this week. Lamar Jackson is expected to be the Week 13 starter at quarterback for Baltimore, as the Ravens look to continue their winning streak. While the Ravens are considered a slight underdog by the betting markets, our models have them as a very slight favorite in the game. However, the majority of the public is favoring Atlanta in pick ’em pools nationwide, and Baltimore (at around 43-percent pick popularity) has value on its side. Our power rankings rate Baltimore as considerably stronger than the the typical 6-5 team, so especially in weekly prize pools, it looks like a good option.Value GambleTampa Bay Buccaneers (vs Carolina)Later in the season, it can be tough to find highly underrated teams, and picking one often involves taking a significant risk. While the Buccaneers have lost seven of their last nine games, they are 3.5-point underdogs against Carolina, with Vegas-implied win odds of over 38 percent and nationwide pick popularity of 21 percent. Given that disparity, the Bucs could be an upset pick worth considering in pools with weekly prize payouts, which often reward more risk-taking when making your picks. However, the risk/reward for Tampa Bay as an upset pick this week isn’t as favorable as some other upset picks in previous weeks were, so the Panthers still look like the better pick in season prize pools, unless you’re way behind in the standings and need to take some big gambles to try to catch up.Which Of These Five Picks Should You Make in Week 13?last_img read more

first_imgUruguay and Egypt will go will go head-to-head in Friday’s Group A clash at the Ekaterinburg Arena.Uruguay have been tipped as favourites to finish top of the group which also includes Saudi Arabia and hosts Russia. La Celeste qualified for the World Cup by finishing second in South American qualifiying and could be a potential dark horse for the tournament. Egypt on the other hand, will be participating in a World Cup for only the third time in their history.Commentary for this game (12pm Ghana time kickoff) will not be live on Joy 99.7 FM, however Spain vs Portugal (6pm Ghana time kick off) will be. Current FormUruguay head to Russia on the back of just one defeat in their last nine games. In those games, the South Americans have kept an impressive six clean sheets and have won their last three games. Interestingly, Oscar Tabarez’s side opted to play just one warm up match before the tournament, beating Uzbekistan 3-0. Uruguay may have Luis Suarez as their marquee player, but Edinson Cavani will be looking to continue his impressive scoring record for his country. The Paris Saint-Germain star scored ten goals in the 18 qualifying games for Uruguay. Egypt will start their World Cup campaign in poor form after failing to win their last six games. A 3-0 defeat by Belgium in their last game means that the seven time African champions will not be high on confidence when playing in Friday’s early kick off.Previous Encounter: Egypt 0-2 Uruguay (2006)The two countries have only played once in their history and that came in a 2006 friendly at the Alexandria Stadium in Egypt, where goals from Uruguay defender Diego Godin and an own goal from Egyptian defender Abdelzaher El Saqqa was enough for the South Americans to seal a comfortable win.Team NewsUruguay have a fully fit squad to choose from heading into Friday’s early kick off. Oscar Tabarez is expected to field a traditional 4-4-2 formation with all his players in prime form. Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani will lead the line upfront and will be key to Uruguay’s chances of success. Egypt have one major injury concern and that is of course, Mohamed Salah. The Liverpool star, however, has been declared fit in the last 24 hours in a major, major boost for his side. Potential Lineups Uruguay (4-4-2): Muslera, Gaston Silva, Gimenez, Godin, Caceres, Cristian Rodriguez, Bentancur, Vecino, Laxalt, Suraez, Cavani.Egypt (4-2-3-1): El Hadary, Abdel-Shafy, Ali Gabr, Hegazi, Fathy, Abdallah Said, El Neny, Hamed, Warda, Sobhi, Salah.Match Prediction Uruguay are in better form than their Friday opponents, but with Salah in the boat, anything could happen for the Egyptians.Prediction: Uruguay 2-1 Egypt*Joy Sports Uruguay team profileJoy Sports’ Egypt team profile* Follow the World Cup with the Multimedia Group!
